Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra is a lawyer and present Chairperson of the Public Bodies Appeal Tribunal in Mauritius. She was Attorney General and Minister of Justice from 1982 to 1983 and served as the first Minister for Women’s Rights and Family Affairs. In 2003 she was appointed as the first Ombudsperson for Children in Mauritius and spent eight years setting up norms and standards for child rights, later actively advocating for the Children’s Act. Cziffra has  promoted children’s rights at international level. From 2004 to 2006, she sat on the Editorial Board of the United Nations Study on Violence against Children.

As a human rights advocate she was a founder member of Women in Law and Development Africa in Harare in 1985 and of Femmes Afrique Solidarité in Geneva and Senegal in 1996. She sat on the Advisory Council of Interights (London) and The Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa (Banjul). She was also a member of the Board of the International Bureau for Children’s Rights based in Montreal, Canada until 2018.)
